Thank you for this analysis, Will. I voted for Harris today. I am a non-Woke liberal who usually but not always votes Democratic. To that, she was not my first choice in the primaries; not even my fifth. But compared to Donald J. Trump, she's Abraham Lincoln, and so she won my vote in the general.
Trump is not a Nazi. He's not interested enough in systems and process and governing to be one. But he will bring a lot of brownshirts into Washington if he wins--JD Vance and the dangerously pestilent Stephen Miller among them, along with the Project 2025 gomers--and allow them to set policy as he spends his time bitching about and trying to crush his perceived enemies.
We cannot afford that in the dangerous mess of a world we have at the moment. I trust Harris to do the right thing by America far more than I trust Trump, and honestly, a Republican Congress would not be needed as a guardrail. I do not believe her heart is in Ultra-Prog governing; I think she used it as a stepping stone to the top because San Francisco/Oakland/California politics required it. She may speak some Ultra-Prog nonsense, but she won't govern that way.
But even if she did, she's not Trump, who wants to burn down America to ensure he warms his hands in the fire of his enemies. That's no different from AQ, Tali, and Islamic State, and we don't elevate those kind of monsters to the Oval Office, we kill them deader than Raid.
Good to be reading your writings again. Plus, good to see you are still hanging in there with Harris. I understand your reasons for it being hard. I voted for her yesterday.
Back when trump was on the horizon as a candidate for potus, I read a comment by Bill Moyers that has stuck with me ever since. He said Donald trump doesn't have a soul, but an open sore. The same can be said for Steven miller. These are some bad dudes.

So Harris it is.
