No matter how badly the Generals & Admirals have 'shit the bed' in the past, I would still trust their judgement over that of know-nothing movie stars, rock stars, or TikTok influencers.
Have you ever written about why our military and political culture has so little accountability for generals? I work in the corporate world, and while not every CEO who screws up their company gets fired, lots of them do.
I believe that people are not necessarily looking to the generals to save us (I'm not), but rather they are looking for advice. Most probably like me they do not have the privilege of knowing a current servicemember or veteran, or do know one but are not comfortable talking politics with them (which, it just struck me, is the primary reason I'm here at GCV+F myself). These people want some kind of "authoritative" answer to whether Trump is a fascist. I mean, it's sort of a yes-no question, right? Or, they're wondering if he's serious about being some sort of dictator. So, their questions are a little different than before, where we would see former generals on CNN pretty much commenting on military matters.
So they want to hear from the generals on this one. Fair enough, but when they come out and say that Trump is a fascist, shouldn't the response be, "Dude, you thought this guy was the next Hitler and you're telling us now, two weeks before the election?". Which makes them slightly less credible. I dunno; for me, it doesn't matter so much. I always believe what people say and judge them by their actions. I think a lot of people have forgotten this.
Holy sh#t. Very Powerful piece Will. You make excellent points why our Military should stay out of politics. I'm very sad to hear the sexual assault stats have gone up. My ptsd is through the roof waiting on this damn Election madness to be over with. I'm also dealing with knee surgery 7 days after 11/5. Ugh. But hopefully we will be celebrating a Harris victory without too much ugliness. Praying hard. 🙏🇺🇸💙

That's for sure.

I have not but I should!

I think you’re spot on.

Hi Lisa. Thanks as always for reading. Inshallah for Harris.
Thanks Will. That means a lot. ❤️🇺🇸
