On 22 March, a motley crew of active duty Air Force intelligence professionals and a bunch of
(s) will be crushing the 36th annual Bataan Memorial Death March. I’ve done a lot of races. Some are fun, others are horrible, but none compares to this incredible race.(For those unfamiliar with the Bataan Death March, I got you)
In 2023, during my last year in command, I had the great fortune to compete alongside some incredible Airmen, most of them from the greatest intelligence squadron in the history of the United States Air Force — the 451st Intelligence Squadron.
After we completed the race, we even had a surprise proposal!
For those who don’t know, the Bataan Memorial Death March is a marathon, but some people—like me—choose to strap on 35 lbs and ruck it. This isn’t a requirement for the race. In fact, it’s open to people who want to walk the marathon in memory of those brave service members who did not survive the real deal.
This type of race is very difficult. It took us nearly eight hours last time to complete it. We don’t leave people behind. We always finish and start as a team. The training for this race takes months; if you’re smart, you start six months in advance.
This year
is sponsoring a motley crew of active duty service members and veterans. We’re covering lodging and meals. If you want to support us, we’ve created a GoFundMe page, or you can become a paid subscriber. All paid subscriptions until 23 March will go directly to cover our costs. And if you just want to wish us well, we’ll be live streaming and posting pictures throughout the event!
Wonderful and impressive! What a grueling event.
That's so awesome and a real tribute to the people who had to walk that horrific walk. Congratulations to all of you!! I'm so impressed!! I'd be glad to gift a Subscription to someone for the March if you tell me how. Just let me know. ❤️🇺🇸💙
