John McCain, sigh. I always wonder how that Trump first term would have turned out if he had lived. You're right about Biden, and that's a damn shame; probably the last time American policy dictated we stand by an ally, for good, was Korea. Thank you Ike, a truly underrated president who absolutely understood everything about war and the perception of America as a beacon of freedom.

Biden did a good thing by running in 2020. The chance of him stepping down now (or even considering) is as likely as Nikki Haley retracts her endorsement for Trump. Power is intoxicating and people can rationalize anything, even decent people. With the SCOTUS’ latest ruling, I frankly think we won’t see Trump ever leaving office voluntarily if elected this November. The stakes are even higher than yesterday and I fear Biden and prominent Dems are refusing to look at options.

Here is some real talk.

U.S. politicians are not built to self-sacrifice. Maybe they once were. Alas, that time has passed our nation by.

In contemporary times, American politicians are the human embodiment of bureaucracy. Politicians are the human manifestation of Parkinson’s Law.

The politicians’s psyche is inherently driven by self-preservation and the awe of their own legacy. The professional politician develops a type of hubris (or narcissism) that becomes, in my estimation, almost all-consuming… akin to an addiction.

I recognize that I am painting with a supremely broad brush here... However, stepping away from the highest office in the land after “climbing” and “toiling” for so long is antithetical to the professional politician’s philosophical drive.

I wish I was wrong. However, much like you, I have little to no evidence to suggest that I am.

So with that... What choice do we really have? A morally bankrupt felon with autocratic tendencies or what we saw in the debate (combined with the policies and division experienced over the last 3+ years)?

Bottomline, I am left with two parties and their respective candidates that do not represent my equities or my ethic.

It is also quite sad. Impossibly sad, really.

Spot On. I’ve never met Joe, but I know people that have known him a long time. They all say he’s very personable. Very nice.

I don’t doubt their belief or sincerity.

I don’t believe that Joe has the humility to step aside. He’s been office seeking his whole life.

Should he? I guess we will know in early November.

It’s nice to support a veteran without resorting to a giant car magnet. (Ugh.)

I forgot to say congratulations on becoming a contributor at The Bulwark my favorite blog, just as The Weekly Standard was always my favorite magazine. Also, if the Democrats really wanted to shake things up while keeping Biden they should replace Harris with one of the erstwhile (other than Biden) presidential candidates.

Does Bucky's tongue ever actually get inside his mouth completely? Seems like it's way too much for one mouth to handle. Good luck with your ceremonies, GCV!

LOL. Thanks, Kathleen. He rarely has his tongue completely inside.

Rather than dredge up 50 year old stuff how about we consider that Biden evacuated thousands of Afghans white Trump wasn’t going to evacuate a single one.

"But he’s not going to do that. Maybe I’m wrong. I’ve been wrong many times before. And if I’m wrong here, I will happily eat crow, and I’ll title the article, “Will is a big meanie face who was wrong.”"

1. I really can't believe The Democratic Party Is THAT stupid.

2. If this is still a major story Friday...Joe is Gone.

(As Always But..I..Could..Be..Wrong.)

Wow. Just wow. I'm even more sickened after reading this Will Selber. I knew Biden had some weak spots but these are HUGE.

I've been supporting Steve Schmidt as he is one of few voices calling for Joe to step down. He wrote an incredible essay about it yesterday. I should send you the link. If you like History you'd love it. As you know he was John McCain's chief political Strategist and he loved him dearly. I adore Steve too and have been following him on "The Warning" for months. Thank you for your honesty. It is so refreshing in today's world of sound bites and misinformation. You're a treasure. I'm deeply disappointed in Joe Biden but not surprised. I will continue to share your work widely. 👏❤️🇺🇸💙
