I can't claim to have helped any Afghan escape the Taliban or the war, but I can proudly share that I've helped many settle in the US. I too love watching them succeed and helping where I can.

Some day a movie will be made about those who saved so many Afghans . It is truly a story that needs to be told in many ways including on the big screen. Yes I know the Afghans saved themselves but let's also say that saving the Afghans also helped save you veterans because it helped you heal. Remember the line in Saving Private Ryan where the crusty Sgt, says "Someday we might look back on this and decide that saving Private Ryan was one decent thing we were able to pull out of this whole godawful shitty mess" ? Well there you go-- veterans have done this. (I happen to think you've done way more than this because although we lost your interaction with countless Afghans in country planted many ideas, dreams and will be passed on.) Please forgive me while I also say it's a Schindler's List type story. Some day all of the Afghans and their children's children will gather around and speak about your and other veterans' actions in getting them out. I won't be around to see that but I will smile from above.
