Howdy,
What a weekend! I’m happy to announce (via GCV at least) that Ahmadullah and his family arrived at Logan Airport on Friday at 1500 EST.
We did it, folks. But, more importantly, Ahmadullah did it.
Please welcome Ahmadullah, Abdullah, Adeela, and Heela (below) to America!
It was a whirlwind trip that I will elaborate more on in the coming days and weeks. I’ve been on the road since Thursday, so I’m a bit spent. I aim to crank out a couple of posts this week while publishing our first episode of Shoulder to Shoulder tomorrow at 0730EST. Inshallah, you will find our conversation with LTG Sami Sadat and BG Khoshal Sadat (they are not related) as riveting as we did.
I also plan to write a few things about Iran’s attack on Israel for the Bulwark. But I will write a lot about allies in the coming days on GCV, what that means, and why it’s essential that you hit back when your allies are getting smoked.
But before we get into analysis and all that stuff, let’s luxuriate in a minor miracle. Twelve years ago, I said goodbye to Ahmadullah and hoped to run into him sometime down the road.
The best thing I did with my career was make sure these promises were upheld.
This victory belongs to Ahmadullah and his family and my teammates, Kate R, Hope, & Seth, who decided to give a fuck when nobody would’ve questioned them if they had decided to pass.
Uphold the promise.
No One Left Behind.
Until Next Time.
Welcome to Ahmadullah and his family! If they get a chance to visit Sacramento, CA, we have a great community of Afghans who’ve resettled here and are improving the local scene with restaurants, grocery stores, shops, and farms. Come for the people, stay for the food. We’re farm to fork everything here!
Welcome home! What a beautiful family!! May your lives here be full of only blessings!!! 🥳♥️🤲 (Not for nothing, Will, you made the right decision in going for a clean shave. 😉)
