Howdy,
A few housecleaning notes. I’m going to start creating a little structure to these here posts. Every Friday, I will do a top 5 articles from the week. Some I will agree with, and some I will not. However, I think it is essential for you to read —gasp—people who would strongly disagree with me. I’m also considering doing more foreign policy/national security analysis. Perhaps twice a week or so. We shall see. Once I figure it out, I’ll let you know.
Yesterday, quite a few airstrikes made the news. First, the IDF struck an area of the Iranian Embassy in Syria, killing seven Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers, including two generals. Both generals are tied to the IRGC’s Quds Forces (QF), which, in layman’s terms, is like their CIA/national clandestine service responsible for exporting the Islamic revolution overseas. In short, these are some pipe hitters.
Why Syria and why the IRGC-QF when all eyes are on Gaza? Israelis are getting ready for an invasion of southern Lebanon to push Hezbollah back behind the Litani River, per UN Security Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war with Hezbollah.
When you think of Hezbollah, please think of Iran. While some analysts will wax poetically about Hezbollah’s independence, they’re essentially an arm of Iran, much like the Haqqani Network is an arm of Pakistani ISI. Same, same. Hezbollah is by far the best-equipped, most dangerous terror organization/movement/semi-state in the world. They have approximately 50,000 well-seasoned fighters and 100,000 rockets in their arsenal.
And Israel can no longer tolerate them firing anti-tank missiles into border towns, considering thousands of Israelis from northern Israel remain internally displaced. Also, an upcoming war with Hezbollah is widely accepted as inevitable among most Israeli politicians. How do I know? I actually read Israeli press. Every. Day. Again, this is not something cooked up in a lab by “the right-wing” Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Yesterday, the IDF also tragically unintentionally struck a vehicle from World Central Kitchen, killing seven aid workers, including a dual-national American citizen. I’ve seen a lot of hyperbolic rhetoric about this strike from the usual suspects (hello, Mehdi Hasan), but most of these people have never been in a war, so they don’t have the foggiest idea how often this happens. It happened often in Iraq and Afghanistan —in fact, the last official strike in Afghanistan by the American military killed innocent people.
Now, the IDF needs to be more careful than others, partly because the world hates Jews and also because they are badly losing the PR war. Israelis aren’t the warmest people in the world. This is known. So, this is just something they have to get over. However, they are even worse than the American military regarding information operations (IO).
Part of it is that they don’t feel like they have to explain themselves to the world. This is inherent in Zionism. No longer will the Jews have to defend themselves for defending themselves. Nevertheless, they must figure out how to go on the offensive in the IO sphere—and soon.
Lastly, there was also an airstrike against Israel from Iraq yesterday. This isn’t the first time this has happened. It happens pretty regularly, but the IDF usually knocks them down. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq is an Iranian proxy group for Iranian proxies (you read that correctly). The attack struck a naval base in the coastal town of Eilat, causing minor damage.
Again, this is the Iranians telling the Israelis they can touch them via numerous proxies: Hamas, Hezbollah, Iraqi militias, the Houthis, etc. There are a lot of Iranian-backed groups who act at their master’s behest.
This gets us back to the coming war with Hezbollah. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to happen. President Biden nor even a President Trump can stop it. The Israelis will not aim to remove Hezbollah from power since it doesn’t officially control Lebanon, but it will look to push them back to the Litani River—where they’re supposed to be in the first place.
That war will be far bloodier and more tragic than the Hamas conflict. This will get worse before it gets better.
Buckle up.
Until Next Time.
Well said and I couldn’t agree more about the war with Hezbollah. That was my thesis in the national war college and I still stand by my assessment that this will be a bloody and protracted conflict.
I think you are too quick to forgive the IDF on this one. The World Central Kitchen convoy was traveling on an IDF-approved corridor, in clearly-marked WCK convoy of 3 vehicles. An IDF drone struck them one. after. the. other. 3 separate strikes. That is not "accidentally" anything.
