I love you man! Never know what I'm in for when I start reading your ramblings. Sometimes I cry, other times I laugh, or I get angry, and occasionally all three, either in succession or simultaneously. It's a real rollercoaster getting these brief peaks into your battered and weary mind. Nothing but respect! And many hugs for your wise and beautiful princess...
I had a chance to see a conversation between historian Heather Cox Richardson (Letters from an American) and Connie Schultz (journalist - Hopefully Yours Substack -- and wife of Senator Sherrod Brown) at a fundraiser Thursday night.
It was a GREAT discussion. I wrote about one of the most interesting things Richardson said in a comment on another Substack, relating to the strange bedfellows we all find ourselves hanging out with these days:
"One of the most interesting discussion topics was about the political realignment the country is going through. Heather linked it to another point in our history, leading up to the election of Lincoln in 1860. People who were on opposing sides became allies, much like we see happening today. A new party was born.
"We don't know yet what may happen because we're still in the middle of it. But it's big and will be something we'll look back on in 10, 15 or 20 years and say, "I was there."
Not many can claim the title of General and Princess. Way to go Alice. I’ve heard you speak often of half priced books. Prolly your all time favorite. Congrats - yet another great article.
