Right now in 2025 we are again abandoning Afghans who fled to Pakistan and after 3-4 years finally have or soon will have approved visas to the U.S.
Many Afghans in Pakistan just received U.S. embassy approval to come to the U.S. this month and next. Some have waited for and just received recommendations from the U.S. soldiers they supported or from teams of Welcome Corps American citizens. (I know how long the wait can be - I wrote support letters for two Afghans after 2021 who have become my friends in America since arriving here and becoming really fine Americans)
But President Trump and Elon Musk just cancelled all visa approval and applications so pro democracy Afghans - teachers, nurses, and others the Taliban hates for their support of our effort to get the planners of September 11 attacks out of their caves and the effort to build a new government based on equal rights. So many now await deportation by Pakistan to torture or death by Taliban for trusting our promise to help build a fair government based on rule by elected leaders.
We Americans have a chance today to ask our representatives Senators and President. - before Pakistan deports any more to the Taliban- yo please reverse the cancellation of visas for resettlement to America… will we at least try to do more than nothing?
